HPWriter is an idea I’m kicking around, not a built project yet — nothing about the design is committed or thought out in detail. This page is a placeholder for the concept so I remember to come back to it.

The Idea

A distraction-free writing device that behaves like an appliance rather than a computer: no operating system, no notifications, just typing. Unlike a mechanical typewriter, it would be quiet enough for shared spaces like classrooms and libraries. Unlike a screen-only device (e.g. Freewrite), it would produce real ink on plain paper you can hold and file away.

The rough idea is to use an HP45 inkjet cartridge for printing, since it’s cheap, refillable, and well-documented for hobbyist control — but the electronics, mechanical design, and even whether HP45 is the right choice are all still open questions.

Idea stage only. No prototype, no finalized bill of materials, no schedule. If this turns into an actual build, this page will be updated with real progress instead of speculation.
